Finding D&D in Carmel, Indiana, or anywhere else in Hamilton County, is easier than it was five years ago and harder than it should be. The players are here. The suburbs north of Indianapolis are full of people who played in college, parents whose kids want to try it, and adults who watched a streaming show and wondered. What is thin is the public infrastructure that connects them. This guide lists the confirmed places to sit down at a table, then explains how to find a group when no public table fits.
Venues change. Everything below was checked against its own site or a current listing in October 2026.
Which stores in Carmel and Fishers host D&D?
Game stores are the main public venue for Dungeons & Dragons on the north side, as they are in most American suburbs.
Hero’s Emporium, Carmel. A tabletop, card, and RPG store at 12697 N Pennsylvania St with weekly Magic Commander play on Thursdays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 2 p.m. It lists no regular RPG night online, so ask at the counter about campaigns and open tables.
Next Level Games, Carmel. A family game store with tabletop, card, video, and RPG stock. It does not post an RPG schedule online, so ask the staff whether an open table is running; schedules vary by season.
Gray Gauntlet Games, northeast Indianapolis near Fishers (7998 Centerpoint Dr). Play space and an events calendar that leans toward Magic, Pokémon, and Lorcana. Worth checking for RPG one-shots, and a good place to ask about local groups even when no table is listed.
Moonshot Games, downtown Noblesville (50 N 9th St). A short drive north of Fishers. A community room, a busy events calendar, and occasional D&D events, such as a Learn to Play Dungeons & Dragons session (about $10) on November 21, 2026.
If you live in Carmel or Fishers and are willing to drive 25 minutes, the downtown Indianapolis stores add more options. Good Games on South Meridian has 3,500 square feet of play space downtown.
Is there anywhere to play D&D in Westfield?
Not a dedicated store we could confirm as of October 2026. Westfield players generally drive to Carmel (ten to fifteen minutes) or Noblesville.
That absence is a real gap, and gaps are how groups start. Several of the longest-running tables in any suburb began with one person posting at a coffee shop or a library and five strangers showing up. Westfield has the population for it. What it lacks is the room.
Do the libraries run D&D programs?
Hamilton County’s library systems are active and worth checking directly. Hamilton East Public Library in Fishers runs a free adults-only board game afternoon on the first Thursday of each month, which is the right room to ask about RPG programming and to meet people who play. The Carmel Clay Public Library and Westfield Washington Public Library both post event calendars; neither listed a D&D program the week we checked (Westfield’s games that week were euchre, bridge, and mahjong), but teen D&D programs are common at public libraries nationally and these systems are large enough to run them, so check the calendars each season.
Library tables have two advantages over store tables. They are free, and they are built for beginners. The disadvantage is that most are for teens; adult programming is rarer.

How do you find a private D&D group on the north side?
Most D&D in Hamilton County happens at kitchen tables, and most of those tables have an open seat at some point. Here is how to get into one.
- Ask at the store counter. Store staff know which regulars are looking for players. This works better than any app.
- Go to a free RPG day or a one-shot. You meet five people who play. One of them has a group.
- Use the lookup tools. Meetup, the r/lfg subreddit, and D&D Beyond’s group finder all have Indianapolis listings. Filter by “Carmel” or “Fishers” and “in person.”
- Post at a third place. A coffee shop bulletin board in Carmel’s Arts & Design District or a Fishers brewery will still get responses.
- Say yes to the odd game. A group playing Pathfinder or Call of Cthulhu is still a group. Systems are easier to learn than friendships are to build.
We wrote a longer piece on how to find a D&D group that covers the etiquette once you are in the door.
What if you want to start a group instead?
Starting is faster than searching in the north suburbs, because the demand is high and the supply of Dungeon Masters is low. If you are willing to run, players will come.
| Step | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| Pick a venue | Your home, a store’s open table, a library meeting room, or a quiet brewery on a weeknight |
| Pick a time | Same night every other week; monthly games die, weekly games exhaust people |
| Run a one-shot first | A single four-hour session with pregenerated characters filters for people who fit |
| Cap it at five players | Six is loud, four is fragile |
| Set the house rules on day one | Phones, snacks, who buys the next book |
Running your first session is less frightening than it sounds, and our guide for first-time Dungeon Masters covers the half-dozen things that matter.
What does the north side’s D&D scene need?
Rooms. The players exist; the stores are generous with their tables but are stores first, and the libraries serve teens well and adults less so. What is missing is a place built for a five-hour campaign session: a reserved table, a door that closes, a kettle, and no one needing the space for a tournament at seven.
That is one of the specific reasons The Ludarium is building a membership game lounge in the Indianapolis area. Campaign groups are the ideal member: they show up on the same night for years. When the doors open, we want a standing D&D table to be one of the first things on the calendar.

Roll initiative
The north side has the players and the stores. It will have the rooms. The game is the reason. The people are the point.
