Questions

What is the best way to start playing the Pokémon TCG?

The official Play! Pokémon getting-started page points new players to Battle Academy: balanced decks with a board that leads you through the game. For one player who wants a deck to bring to a store, the official rulebook suggests a Mega Battle Deck.

How many cards are in a Pokémon TCG deck?

A deck is exactly 60 cards. You can have only 4 copies of any card with the same name, except Basic Energy, and the deck needs at least one Basic Pokémon.

Can you attack on the first turn in the Pokémon TCG?

The player who goes first cannot attack or play a Supporter card on that first turn. The second player can attack on their first turn. Neither player can evolve a Pokémon on their own first turn.

How do you win a game of the Pokémon TCG?

Take all 6 of your Prize cards, Knock Out your opponent's last Pokémon in play, or have your opponent start their turn with no cards left to draw.

What is Pokémon League?

Pokémon League is casual play at Play! Pokémon stores, open to everyone. No experience is needed, and someone is usually there to help new players. Find one with the official Event Locator.

Do Pokémon ex give up more Prize cards?

Yes. When a Pokémon ex is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards. A Mega Evolution Pokémon ex gives up 3.
